About Dr Jay Capunitan

Before beginning a career as a primary care physician, Dr. Jay Capunitan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. He also received post-graduate training at University of Santo Tomas, where he completed a medicine and surgery internship, followed by an internal medicine residency at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital. Subsequently, Dr. Jay Capunitan worked as a primary care physician at Our Lady of Mediatrix Hospital and MTECH Medical Hospital.

Pursuing further training in the United States, Jay Capunitan, MD, performed an internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. During his residency, he earned several letters of commendation for providing exceptional patient care and delivered grand rounds and morning reports on subjects ranging from pulmonary tuberculosis and HIV to diagnosis and management of atrial flutter. He then spent two years as an infectious disease fellow at the University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, at the time part of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School.

Active in several professional organizations, Dr. Capunitan maintains membership in the American Medical Association, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the American College of Physicians.

Outside of his work as a physician, Jay Capunitan, MD, enjoys exercising and watching medical drama series. He also attends Broadway theatrical productions, and is an avid watcher of the Food Network and Travel Channel.
